Burlington, Wisconsin
Not only is Burlington one of the most picturesque small towns in the Midwest, it’s probably the best smelling one, too! Thanks to the Nestle plant at the edge of town, an irresistible cocoa aroma flavors the entire city, especially when the breeze is out of the southwest. But, Burlington has other flavors, too. Its rich history includes a long relationship with the railroad, theatre (Burlington’s Malt House theatre is the oldest continuous theatre group in the state!) and even lies. It’s true. Burlington is home to the Liars Club, which selects each year’s most outlandish lie.
Whether you’re a weekend visitor or a longtime resident, you’ll find a wealth of information at the Burlington Chamber, where you’ll find answers to almost any question you have about Chocolate City. Local government is at the center of the city at Burlington City Hall. The Historical Society maintains a small museum downtown near the Burlington Library. Find out more about churches, schools and local happenings at BurlingtonBuzz.com. And, speaking of schools, find more on the public school system at Burlington Area School District. Parochial schools include Catholic Central, and several grade schools. Gateway Technical College has a Burlington campus as well.
The Veterans Terrace is conveniently close to the historic downtown shopping district where you can browse shops containing everything from books to flowers to shoes… and chocolate, of course.
