A little background: The original Veterans Memorial Building at the edge of Echo Park was finished in July, 1963. That building has a vast and varied history, which is worth a few minutes’ read. The building was a joint effort among three groups: the American Legion, the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). So many memories – weddings, teen dances, concerts, even Jazzercise – all contributed to the building’s popularity over the years. The good news?
It’s still there. Oh yes, quietly concealed beneath, between, beside and under the beautiful new structure, the "old" Vets Building is alive and well. . . sturdy as ever and still a part of Burlington and its history.
- The new building, planned by Burlington Architect Tom Stelling and Associates, has five main venues:
- Liberty Hall, with a seating capacity of 425 can be divided into Salon A and Salon B, each seating 200.
- Stars and Stripes Room seats 90 and is a comfortable room for Christmas parties, class reunions, birthdays, anniversaries and corporate meetings, to name a few.
The Patriots Room has room for 125 guests. You could fill it with family for a Christmas celebration, a corporate group for a mid-week seminar or Scouts for award ceremonies.
- Memorial Terrace is perfect for gatherings of up to 160. Overlooking the White River flowing over the dam from Echo Lake makes this a perfect backdrop for a wedding celebration, Chamber after hours event or casual summer dinner. Wisconsin weather allows the Terrace to be open May through September.
Echo Park is one of the many gems of Burlington and provides a stunning back yard for the Veterans Terrace. Plan your outdoor wedding ceremony here with reception to follow in elegant Liberty Hall. Veterans Terrace is also contiguous to Burlington’s beautiful River Walk, where you can take a walk with the river on one side and Historic Downtown Shopping on the other. Don’t forget to stop at the Burlington Chamber of Commerce to see the Chocolate Museum.
Catering kitchens, brides’ rooms and bountiful storage areas are a few of the conveniences being added to the Veterans Terrace. The facility is completely handicap accessible and parking is conveniently close. Several offices allow staff to be on hand to take care of every detail as you plan your event. It’s our pleasure to introduce you to the new Veterans Terrace at Echo Park. Truly one of Burlington’s treasures!
